Knowledge and prevention practice against dengue vectors among dengue patients and general people in Chattogram, Bangladesh

Background: Due to the absence of an effective vaccine for dengue, community-led vector control strategy could be a sustainable approach dengue prevention. Therefore, this study aimed assess people’s knowledge vectors and practice preventive measures avoid mosquitoes by means structured questionnaire. Methods: A telephone-based survey was conducted between July 2019 December from confirmed patients general people without fever living in Chattogram, Bangladesh. Patients’ contact information collected two tertiary care hospitals. The level were determined through scoring each participant against their responses. association individuals’ scores with demographic variables measured chi-square binary logistic analyses. Results: Overall, 61.9% participants (72% case 51.7% non-case) had good knowledge, whereas only 10.6% them (12.7% 8.7% strongly practiced mosquito prevention methods. However, significant variation found groups. Urban residents 2.20 times higher compared semi urban. Students government officials 3.39 3.17 better than workers respectively. Permanent 2.01 comparison temporary housing. In terms measures, semi-urban showed 3.19 (CI=0.97-10.52) stronger rural people. Conclusions: This suggests that strategies should focus on engaging community people.
